For the Past 22 years, Fireclay has been ahead of the curve in making quality ceramic tiles using recycled materials and sustainable manufacturing practices. For example, Fireclay was the first tile maker to convert to a system of 100% lead-free glazes in 1988, at a time when leadless glaze technology was in its infancy. NPR and the Wall Street Journal have both featured Fireclay for their collection and recycling of old, inefficient toilets into beautiful, long-lived tiles.
Fireclay’s Debris tile series features 112 lead-free colors and contains 60% recycled materials in the form of curbside waste glass, waste granite dust and used sandblasting abrasives. The result is a terra cotta colored stone body with a red-brown hue that is both beautiful and sustainable
Fireclay is not only looking forward but also looking back by using “old world” methods to create the highest quality hand-made ceramics that are sustainable. Tiles are hand-molded using recycled materials and fired at over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit to achieve the greatest strength and consistency. Because of the unique and hand-made nature of the product, color variation is to be expected.
Ceramic tiles have a record, dating back to the Roman era, of durability and performance. Fireclay tiles have a long product lifespan of 100+ years due to the materials used and the fired nature of the manufacturing process. Ceramic tile is one of the easiest materials to maintain and its hygienic surface reduces the risk of mold and other threats to your indoor air quality.
Fireclay recycles its waste water and waste materials and reincorporates them back into the production their products.
