Store compressed batts in dry area, and shake prior to installing to help accelerate the natural rebounding properties of the fibers. Fit batts firmly into place between studs. If building codes require a vapor barrier, it should be applied toward the living area. Cut or tear the insulation to fit snugly around obstructions such as plumbing, vent lines, and electrical boxes. Use leftover pieces to fill small openings around windows and doors. For exterior walls, most climates will require either a 4-mil or 6-mil poly vapor barrier. Contact your building code office for local requirements.
