Founder & President

Sarah BeattySarah Beatty is an accidental entrepreneur. In 2005, she founded Green Depot with a mission: to make green living and building solutions accessible affordable and gratifying. With 10 locations including a consumer flagship in New York City and an ecommerce site (, Green Depot is fast becoming the nation’s leading supplier of sustainable building products and services.

Green Depot has supplied hundreds of projects, including Harvard University, the New School, Albany Public Libraries, the city of Chicago, and the Capitol Building in Washington. Green Depot educates the building trade and consumers about "what green means" every day--via their proprietary CLEAR filter, FLIP It Green service, community programs and events.

Earth Day New York and the NRDC awarded Sarah their 2009 Business Leader of the Year Award. The New York Times says "The Green Depot brings eco-consciousness down to earth, where it belongs".

Prior to Green Depot, Sarah worked in media and marketing. She spent ten years at MTV: Music Television, where she was Vice President of Trade Marketing and Global Branding. In 2001, Sarah joined USA Cable as Senior Vice President of the Marketing and Creative divisions.

Sarah has a B.A. from Harvard College. She is a LEED accredited Professional. Sarah is the mother of three children.

General Manager

Joe KearnsJoe Kearns, Green Depot’s General Manager, has extensive leadership experience in building materials -- from both the manufacturer and distribution sides of the industry. His professional accomplishments and his special blend of expertise make him ideally qualified to lead Green Depot in this exciting period of growth.
Joe has led teams that serve building materials, cabinetry and wood products customers of all stripes including builders, manufacturers, distributors, tradesmen and consumers. His past positions include: Sales Manager at Wholesale Builders Supply, Division Manager and Director of Teleservices at Whirlpool Corporation, VP of Sales and Marketing at Mastercraft Cabinets, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at CH Briggs, and COO of Centre Lumber and Plywood.
Joe is passionate about winter and summer sports: snowboarding, boating, sailing, sport fishing, and scuba diving. His love of the outdoors and nature is deeply entwined with his commitment to sustainability and his responsible approach to business.
A former steering committee member for the Cabinet Industry Distribution Alliance, Joe has a BS in Business from Tusculum College. His dream is to build an outreach organization that helps the unfortunate improve their quality of life through impacting their current way of life.
Joe lives in the Seattle Area with his wife and in his spare time is learning to play the guitar.

Corporate Counsel

Jim HoliberAs Green Depot’s Corporate Counsel, Jim Holiber is responsible for ensuring that all facets of operations are optimized for peak efficiency, maximum sales growth, business plan execution, best practices and superior customer relations. This role extends not only to multi-branch operations and sales, but to the successful launch of new locations and vendor lines. In addition, Jim is responsible for ongoing staff training and mentoring, is a member of Green Depot’s Internal Product Assessment committee, and oversees in-house legal affairs. Currently, Jim serves on the executive board as the treasurer of the Urban Green Council, New York chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, where he is a member of the Fundraising and Governance Committee.

Prior to joining Green Depot in 2006, Jim was President and CEO of The Bay Ridge Companies, a multi-location building material distribution company, where he had spent 18 years in various leadership roles in operations, sales and finance, and as the firm’s General Counsel. Early in Jim's career, he held leadership roles at the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), involved in corporate strategic planning and the management of in-house TV production. While at NBC, Jim earned his law degree at night and went on to work at a New York law firm handling corporate, real estate and immigration law matters before entering the lumber distribution business.

Jim resides with his wife and two children in Westchester County, New York and enjoys skiing, traveling and spending time with his family.
