Green Depot Point of View There's been controversy about the safety of phthalates and BPA lately. Our take? One helpful rule of thumb is "the softer the plastic or vinyl, the more toxic it is." (And more smelly. Take a whiff of a new shower curtain.)
Phthalates-molecules used to make plastics more soft and pliable-are not worth the risk. BPA, or Bisphenol A, is a phthalate compound found in many plastic bottles. In September 2008, the FDA gave it a green light, but a draft report by an FDA subcommittee released in October 2008 urged stronger caution. Green Depot's baby bottles are all BPA-free.
