Green Depot evaluates products to determine whether they conserve energy compared to "mainstream" products. The majority of energy that a product consumes over its lifecycle is consumed while the product is being used (and not during its manufacturing). We prefer products that meet or exceed EPA's Energy Star criteria.
A product is awarded an Energy icon if it: - Helps you save energy-and this includes insulation, passive devices, and attic venting in homes
- Has an Energy Star label, or is proven to use energy more efficiently than mainstream products
- Products that are best-in class receive a full-tone icon
